Rust raid calculator

Count what stands between you and the loot. The calculator picks the cheapest explosive for every piece, adds up the sulfur and hands you a crafting list, so you know what to farm before you make a single rocket.

How the raid calculator works

Every wall, door and deployable in Rust takes a fixed number of each explosive to break, and every explosive costs a fixed amount of sulfur to craft. Put those two tables together and a raid becomes arithmetic. For each piece you add, the calculator looks up the four options (C4, rockets, satchel charges and explosive 5.56 ammo), multiplies by the sulfur behind each one and keeps the cheapest. The big number at the top is the total sulfur for the whole path if you always take the cheapest option on every piece.

The "Only using" table is for the moments when you already have a box of rockets and no intention of crafting anything else. It shows what the same raid costs if you bring one type of explosive for everything, so you can compare "cheapest possible" against "what I actually have".

Sulfur per explosive, crafted from scratch at a workbench: a Timed Explosive Charge is 2,200, a rocket 1,400, a satchel charge 480 and a single explosive 5.56 round 25. Those figures include the sulfur inside the gunpowder and the Explosives component, which is where most of a rocket's cost hides.

Reading the result

The chips under the total tell you what to craft: "2× C4, 63× Explo ammo" means the cheapest route through your list is two charges and sixty-three rounds. The "Crafting list" button carries that exact mix over to the crafting calculator, which turns it into raw sulfur, charcoal, metal fragments, low grade fuel and tech trash, in the order you need to craft them.

"Copy link" puts your whole selection in the URL. Paste it in your group's Discord and everyone sees the same list, including the person who is going to farm the sulfur.

One thing the number does not show is time. Explosive ammo is the cheapest option on nearly every door, but 150 rounds into a garage door takes a while and the sound carries. C4 and rockets are faster and louder still. If the base has people online, the fastest option is often the cheapest one in practice, because a raid that gets countered costs you the kit as well.

Hard side, soft side and what the numbers assume

All counts are for the hard side of a building block, the smooth outer face that a properly built base shows the world. The soft side (the one with the visible frame) takes extra damage from tools and some explosives, so if someone has built a wall backwards you will need fewer than the table says. Doors, hatches, window bars and deployables have no soft side; the number is the number.

Everything here is for vanilla servers, checked against Rust Labs on October 24, 2026 for the Livestock update. Modded servers with raid multipliers, custom gather rates or "no raid" windows will differ, sometimes by a lot. Rocket splash is also not modelled: a rocket damages the blocks next to the one it hits, so on honeycomb or a stack of doors the real count can be lower than the per-piece figure.

Choosing between C4, rockets, satchels and explo ammo

C4 wins on walls. It does the most damage per sulfur on stone, sheet metal and armored blocks, and it sticks exactly where you put it. Explosive ammo wins on doors: a sheet metal door is 63 rounds for 1,575 sulfur against 1 C4 for 2,200, and the gap only gets wider on a garage door. Rockets are rarely the cheapest option on a single piece, but they splash, they fire from range and they keep you out of turret range while you work, so most groups bring them anyway.

Satchels are the early-wipe option. They are cheap in sulfur, they need no high-tier workbench and they do fine on wooden and sheet metal doors. Their downside is reliability: a satchel can fail to go off and has to be re-armed, which is bad news when you are standing in front of a door with the owners inside. Bring one or two more than the calculator says.

Frequently asked questions

How much sulfur does it take to raid a stone wall?

The cheapest option on a stone wall (500 HP) is 2× C4, which costs 4,400 sulfur. The alternatives are 4 rockets (5,600), 10 satchels (4,800) or 182 explosive rounds (4,550).

What is the cheapest way through a sheet metal door?

63 explosive 5.56 rounds, for 1,575 sulfur. One C4 also does it but costs 2,200, two rockets cost 2,800 and 4 satchels cost 1,920. Explo ammo is slow and loud, so if the base is online many groups still pay for the C4.

How many rockets for an armored wall?

15 rockets, or 21,000 sulfur. 8 C4 does the same job for 17,600, which is why nobody rockets armored walls unless they have to.

How much sulfur is one C4, one rocket, one satchel?

Crafted from scratch: a Timed Explosive Charge is 2,200 sulfur, a rocket 1,400, a satchel charge 480 and one explosive 5.56 round 25. The figures include the sulfur in the gunpowder and in the Explosives component.

Do these numbers apply to the soft side?

No. Building block counts are for the hard side. The soft side takes more damage from melee tools and some explosives, so a backwards wall needs fewer. Doors, window bars and deployables have no soft side.

Does the calculator account for rocket splash?

No. Each piece is priced on its own. A rocket also damages the blocks next to the one it hits, so on honeycomb or doors stacked in a line you may get away with fewer rockets than the per-piece count suggests. Treat the total as a safe upper bound.

Can I share my raid plan?

Yes. Every piece you add goes into the page URL, so "Copy link" gives you a link that opens with the same selection for anyone. The "Crafting list" button does the same thing into the crafting calculator.
